Ethics in Criminal Justice
Examines the philosophical, moral, and ethical bases of human behavior from a criminal justice perspective. Students discuss justice, law, and punishment, moral decision-making; and ethical and legal dilemmas in the criminal justice system.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Explain why the study of ethics is important in the discretionary decision-making process.
2. Compare and contrast the major ethical systems.
3. Analyze the different forms of justice (Distributive, Corrective, Restorative).
4. Explain how the concepts of morality, justice and duty are inter-related.
5. Identify the ethical codes governing Criminal Justice Practitioners (police, attorneys, judges and correctional officers).
6. Assess the relationship between discretion, decision-making and morality.
7. Analyze the various ethical dilemmas that confront Criminal Justice practitioners.
8. Complete a self-analysis based on personal profiles to determine suitability as a criminal justice professional.
9. Analyze the various steps that organizational leaders should take to encourage ethical decision making on the part of their employees.
